Tom Price resigns as U.S Health secretary over private flights and Trump criticism

U.S Health and Human services secretary Tom Price resigned under pressure from Donald Trump on Friday in an uproar over Price's use of costly private charter planes for government business. The White House said Tom Price offered his resignation and Trump accepted it. His abrupt departure was announced an hour after Trump told reporters he was disappointed in Price's use of private aircraft and did not like the way it reflected on his administration. Trump named Don Wright to serve as acting secretary. Wright is currently the deputy assistant secretary for health and director of the office of disease prevention and health promotion. Candidates to succeed Price included Seema Verma, who is an administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and who is close to Vice President Mike Pence, and Scott Gottlieb, a physician who serves as commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, according to industry analysts. How Can I Find Out If Someone's Stealing My Wi-Fi?

How can I find out if other people are leeching my Wi-Fi, and how do I stop them if they are? Besides the fact that your WiFi moocher may be slowing down your connection, people connected to your network may also have access to some of your shared folders (depending on what security measures you use), and if someone's using your connection to do illegal things, like hack the smart things  in your home, it could even bring the authorities to your doorstep. Don't worry, though, I can help you find out if, indeed, your WiFi is being stolen and help you put an end to it. Low-Tech Method: Check Your  Wireless Router  Lights Your  wireless router  should have indicator lights that show Internet connectivity, hardwired network connections, and also any  wireless  activity, so one way you can see if anyone's using your network is to shut down all  wireless  devices and go see if that  wireless  light is still blinking. The trouble ...

Facebook is trying to match blood donors with those who need it

Facebook is rolling ou t a new feature  to help blood donors, and the people who need it in India find each other. Making it Easier to Become a Blood Donor On Oct. 1, India's National Blood Donor Day, Facebook will start prompting users to sign up as blood donors. People will see the prompt in their timelines and can tag themselves as donors in their profiles, and choose to share this with friends. In the weeks after, it'll then allow people or organisations seeking blood to create posts to request for it. The post can be geotargeted, so it pushes a notification to tagged donors who are nearer to the seeking party. When donors accept the request, organisations will be able to reach them privately via phone call, or Facebook's Messenger and WhatsApp platforms. Facebook says this feature is serving a real need. India faces a blood shortage, where it has about 10 percent less donated than it needs. More than  38,000 donations  are needed each day to address ...

Good News For All Selfie Lovers, 3D Selfie Is Finally Here

If you love taking  selfies , here comes something new to experiment with. Researchers at the University of Nottingham in Britain have developed a technology capable of producing 3D  facial reconstruction  from a single 2D image - the  3D selfie .  The new web app allows people to upload a single colour image and receive, in a few seconds, a 3D model showing the shape of their face.  Aside from the more standard applications, such as face and emotion recognition, this technology - scheduled to be presented at the International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV) 2017 in Venice in October -- could be used to personalise computer games, improve augmented reality and let people try on online accessories such as glasses.  It could also have medical applications - such as simulating the results of plastic surgery or helping to understand medical conditions such as autism and depression.  The technique was developed using a Convolutional Neural ...
